6TH ANNUAL ANNIVERSARY PARTY
As the fall approaches, and we have to put the cars away for the winter,  the planning stages for the Sixth Annual NOMM Anniversary Celebration start to heat up.   The date for this years Party is Saturday, February 7, 2004. Same place and time (Fern Hill Country Club for you new members).  Invitations will go out in December.  We had a total of 135 attendees last year, with over 35 door prizes handed out and also 50/50 raffles.  At this time, I am already receiving donations for door prizes, and if anyone has something they wish to contribute (thank you Diane and Tony), please feel free to contact me. We are looking forward to another great party. See you there Vicki Hoag

AUTORAMA 2004

fellow NOMM Members.  Even though it seems early, Autorama will be here much sooner than you think.  At this point in time, I have all six Member cars that will be included in the 2004 display.  We are going to have a tremendous showing this year, as we are going to display six great convertibles.  To my knowledge, this has never happened before at any car show. . .  anywhere.   Also, we will have brand new carpet (the old one was badly soiled and the edges were coming apart) and we are working on acquiring new sign-age in the form of a new thirteenfoot banner which will be suspended high above the club display.  I can not guarantee that the banner will be done in time for the upcoming Autorama, but we are very hopeful it will happen.

The members  included in this years display will have a rare opportunity to enjoy this tremendous and unique experience.  Counting this year's group, we will have had thirty-six different cars on display in the last six years, and I think we always have one of the best groups of cars at Autorama each and every year.   Believe me, if you have never been involved in Autorama, you would have a wonderful time.  Except for possible harsh weather, there is never any problem setting up or leaving Sunday night.  I realize some of you do not think your cars are good enough for Autorama.  Please understand that only a few of the entries into Autorama are near perfect restorations, and most of the entrants consist of cars that are considered "drivers."  Believe me, your car is probably qualified to be in the show  if you have any doubts.  Please contact me, or a Board Member,  if you are interested in participating in next year's NOMM display at Autorama.  Thank you.  Marc Milosevich.

THE WOODWARD CRUISE

The Woodward Dream Cruise was yet again an extremely successful event.  I know that some of you got caught in the hard rains  that came in the later afternoon, but all in all it was a decent day for those who made it there.  The real problem was that most of us were without power right up until the day before the Cruise which was caused by the Great Blackout of 2003.

We decided to feed the bank (only about 12 of them in reality) and pay for the catering this year.  The caterer did a great job of preparing  some make shift meals in that they were without power until the night before the Cruise.  They did not bring the exact food that we expected, but what they did bring really hit the spot.  They also charged us even less than they originally quoted, which was really nice.  The bank seemed happy  that we fed them, and everything else went just fine.  I am sure our efforts will help to secure our continued participation at this location.

Woody Wadsworth  did an excellent job again at this location.  Woody even brought out his freshly restored “one of none” 1970 Challenger T/A convertible.

Mark Tuck  again did an excellent job of securing  the Cemetery location.  It is my understanding that he was down there all night by himself.   Mark    He had volunteers prior to Friday night, but then no-one showed up.   I think that some of you members  that take advantage of this location should really help Mark out next year (even though he can adequately handle the situation by himself, he should never have to do this alone in a Club our size).  I would also like to thank Mike Garnett for continuing to fight for our ability to utilize the Cemetery location year after year.   MIKE
Joe Trotta did a fine job of organizing  our Club members  who joined the official Dodge display at the Northwood Shopping Center,  including the rare “Circle of Power”   where our Club owned most of the Max Wedge and Hemi cars that made up this awesome Circle.

It is my understanding that our Club did an excellent job of not backing out and leaving Joe high and dry at this event.  It is important that once you commit to the official display here at 13 Mile and Woodward, you must show up, and on time.    If you do not show up, Joe has absolutely no chance of replacing you, and the display therefore suffers.  This did not happen this year as you can see.

Many of our members and cars made the local news and newspapers while at the Cruise.  Woody Wadsworth  was on Channel 7 for quite a while and other members were interviewed and photographed.  Our three locations also got mentioned in a couple of Mopar magazines regarding “where to see Mopars while at the Woodward Dream Cruise”.

HAROLD SULLIVAN'S 6TH OPEN HOUSE
Harold Sullivan’s  6th annual Open House was a huge success and was attended by most members of the Club.    Where else could you go to see probably the two nicest `70 and `71 Hemi Cuda convertibles in the world   I personally want to commend the Club for acting extremely and perfectly professional/responsible at this event as every member showed the utmost class and respect for Harold, the vehicles and the various memorabilia.  I would like to thank Harold again for letting us peak inside his private showroom as it is a dream come true for most all of us when you round the first corner and get hit in the face  by the display of crazy “high impact” color combinations and the fine automobiles that are there.

MILAN DRAGWAY

We had another excellent (and literally historic) showing at Milan Dragway this year.    Not only did we get to drag our cars all morning long, but we even made about $500.00 to add to our Club account.   The low-light of the day was Keith Wiederhold  seizing up his engine, while in the staging lanes, idling no less, and having to push it on the trailer for the umpteenth time in the last couple of years.  My thanks go out to JoAnne and Alan Hoover for handling the gate to perfection.   A big thanks  also goes out to Clair McNair for helping out all morning at the gate, and without her help, we would have never been able to accommodate the mass of incoming participants as well as we did.

Alright . .  now on to the BIG STORY:  For the first time in almost 30 years, Jimmy Addison’s (with Jimmy present but not driving) 1967 GTX Silver Bullet, the King of the Woodward Avenue Street Racers (tm) made a full throttle pass down the strip.  The car ran two extremely consistent passes at 10.2 and 10.3 seconds.

These times are consistent with the times Jimmy was able to achieve, except the Bullet it is a bit faster now, even though it uses the same basic set-up it did back in the day

My hat is off  to Harold who risked this piece of history, and let it fly down the track at over 131 miles an hour.  There are now two or three clones of the famous Silver Bullet in circulation in the US and in Canada. . . so do not be fooled  by imitations.  There is only one Silver Bullet and it now resides in Madison Heights, Michigan (with an NOMM sticker in the window) and it is endorsed  by the one and only Jimmy Addison, the Godfather of street drag racing.

The Bullet II continues to have transmission difficulties,  so it never made a full pass.  I will guarantee that this will not be the case next year, and hopefully we will see the Bullet II make many more passes next season.   Do not expect the Silver Bullet to do much drag racing next year, this was a one time event that may or may not ever happen again.  For those who were at Milan to experience this event, you just witnessed history being remade and/or rewritten.  Let this event serve as a good lesson for those that missed out by not coming to Milan. . . you blew it man.

CHARITY DONATION
At the upcoming meeting we will discuss this years charity donation.   As you will remember, last year, we donated $2,000.00 to Beaumont Hospital which helps lead the way in the treatment of terminal Childhood diseases and research for cures in the Detroit area.  They were also responsible for recently making Jeff Dawson healthy again,  so we can continue to yell at him for taking so long to complete our car’s interior!!  I know I am not alone here, as Jeff helps out many, many members with their interior and trim needs.

UNTAPPED RESOURCE
Many of you may already know that Ted Mazurek  does all of Harold’s Mechanical and assembly work.  He has also been so kind as to write a couple of Tech articles for us in the past couple of Newsletters.  I would like to let you know that Ted also does work on the side for Club members at extremely reasonable rates.   I have relied on Ted for a myriad of tasks where otherwise I would have been forced to send my original part out to God only knows where, to have it reconditioned, and then I would have to pray I got my original, date coded, piece back.

Ted can help you with almost anything including the following services: P/S Gear Box Rebuild, Manual Steering Box Rebuild, P/S pump rebuild, Steering Column rebuild, complete 8 3/4 rebuild or gear swap, Automatic Transmission rebuild/overhaul, Manual Transmission rebuild, Engine rebuild or assembly, Carburetor rebuild of any kind, Master Cylinder rebuild, Wheel Cylinder rebuild, electrical problem diagnosis, Tech help, and much, much more.  Please call  Ted on Friday, Saturday, Sunday or Monday between the hours of 9:00 am until 5:00 pm at (586) 774-1656.  Please do not call him Tuesday through Thursday as he will be unavailable.

RANTS FROM DAVE
This Newsletter is my first attempt at a more colorful and more interesting product.   It would be much better if I could get some candid or interesting photos from you members and maybe a little story behind one or two photos if possible (but this is not entirely necessary for photo submissions).  We do have a waiting list this year, but it is not huge.  If you know of someone  who would like to join the club, make sure they send a letter to our P.O. Box to express this interest ASAP.  Make sure you send in your renewal check ASAP as well, as I often have to remind folks too often of this duty.  Please do not give your renewal check to me at the meeting as I have enough to do there as it is now.  Sam Bonanno  will have some Club merchandise for sale at the meeting and we are currently looking around to find a new source for our Sweatshirts and Jackets now that Ted Cuda  is enjoying sunny Florida that lucky so and so.  I will be updating you soon on this topic.  I have asked Harold to bring a couple of Silver Bullet models if anyone is interested in purchasing  one at the meeting.  They are sold out worldwide, and you can only get a new one from Harold these days.   See you at the meeting.

MEMBERSHIP RENEWALS
The time has come again to renew your membership  in N.O.M.M.  Many of you may not realize, but this membership fee is refunded to you immediately in the form of a cost subsidy if you bring a spouse or loved one to the Anniversary Party.  The Club is subsidizing each attending person’s admission fee again to the party by at least $13.00. Like last year, membership renewals are officially due by December 31, 2003.  If we do not receive your renewal in our P.O. Box by January 15, 2004, your name will be deleted from the Club roster.   I have attached a renewal form for you to fill out  and return to our P.O. Box with your check for $25.00.  I have been criticized lately for writing about how valuable your membership is for you and for the Club, so I will leave you with only these words: I dare you not to renew, as there are many other people that would love to take your spot.  Are you going to let them??  I would not in a million years!

Dave Smith.
